There is a bridge over Chindwin river at Monywa. People can travel from Bagan to Pakokku by boat, and continue by car to Pakhangyi. Then continue north to Monywa. The map also shows locations of Sagaing, Mandalay, Mt Popa and Sale.

Mandalay airport is located at Tada U. Nyaung U airport is only 6 km from Bagan. There is a daily boat from Mandalay to Bagan from June to January. Departure Mandalay is at 0530 / 0600 hours; arrival Nyaung U jetty is in the afternoon or evening. The boat may not run during February to April (dry season) due to low water level.
